The Spieljochbahn has been awarded by TÜV Austria and holds the ISO 14001 certificate for environmentally conscious and sustainable management.
As a recognized standard for the certification of environmentally conscious businesses, ISO 14001 represents resource-efficient management – globally. The prerequisite for certification, awarded in Austria by TÜV Austria, is a documented and integrated environmental management system within the organization.
Sustainable practices and modern architecture in harmony with nature were already considered during the construction of the Spieljochbahn. In 2017, the Schultz Group focused on environmentally conscious operations: "At Spieljoch, our photovoltaic systems generate more than 100,000 kilowatt-hours. Thanks to our solar system at the mountain station and the heat recovery system, we save even more energy," says Maximilian Schultz, owner of Spieljochbahn and Schultz Group. The Spieljochbahn is also a pioneer in storage ponds, snow management, and slope construction: ecologically valuable grass turf is carefully removed and reinstalled correctly. In addition, CO2 is saved in the valley station through district heating, and electric charging stations, as well as a cooperation with the ÖBB, contribute to sustainability.
"The Spieljochbahn is now at the forefront of tourist businesses that promote environmental protection and regional sustainability due to ISO 14001. It is proof that economic and ecological sustainability can be reconciled," explained lead auditor Mag. Eva Stockley.
